Survey Description

A total of 171 till and humus samples were collected in the Atholville-Charlo area of north central New Brunswick in 1998 and 1999.  A few samples were also collected in northernmost part of Tetagouche Lakes (21O/9) and Upsalquitch Forks (21O/10).

The data are published in New Brunswick Department of Natural Resources and Energy Open File 2002-9.

Data Description:

Paper copy; data lists on diskette.

Quantities Analysed:

<0.063 mm fraction of till and <0.177 mm fraction of humus by AAS after aqua regia for 12 elements and by INAA for 27 elements.

Geochem Maps Available:

Contoured maps show dispersal of selected clasts and elements.

Other Analyses:

Grain size (<2 mm); pebble lithologies (2-10 cm).

The data have also been published as part of a compilation for NTS 21O, 21N and 22B in NB DNRED Open File OF 2021-2.

Sampling Procedure

Samples were collected from hand-dug pits, road cuts and natural exposures.  Sample pits were approximately 0.5 m in diameter and ranged in depth from 0.2 to 0.8 m.  Approximately 3 to 5 kg of till matrix was collected.
