Project Metadata

Till samples have been collected across New Brunswick for many years and by different organizations.  Over the years, samples were processed by different preparation methods and analytical techniques.  In order to create one combined data set from which to produce element distribution maps, correction factors must be applied to make values from one survey comparable to values from another survey.  This is known as levelling.

As part of the levelling procedure, subsets of samples collected in previous years across the province were reanalysed in 20xx by xxxx to provide a standard baseline of element values that could be compared with previous data.  Details of the levelling project can be found in Geological Survey of Canada Open File 5937 (see “levelled_data” subdirectory).

Open File 5937 also contains all of the previously published data, the reanalysed data as well as some data that were never published but were given to GSC by New Brunswick to use in the compilation database for the levelling project.

Prior to the reanalysis, levelling was carried out on 2122 till samples collected between 1990 and 2003 in southwestern New Brunswick.  A description of the levelling methods for these data is published in NB Department of Natural Resources Mineral Resource Report MRR 2004-4.  The details of the project and resulting regional-scale geochemical contour maps are found in NB DNR MRR 2005-6.
