Survey Description


During the summer of 1988, helicopter-supported lake sediment and water sampling was carried out in northwestern Ontario.  Samples were collected at an average density of one sample per 13 km2 throughout the 9,400 km2 survey area.  Sample site duplicate samples were routinely collected in each analytical block of twenty samples.  The data are published in Geological Survey of Canada Open File 1957.

This survey was carried out using National Geochemical Reconnaissance (NGR) protocols.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers the northeast-most corner of NTS 52D and most of the eastern half of 52E in northwestern Ontario.  Lake of the Woods covers a large portion of the centre of the polygon, but lakes on its islands have been sampled.  It is bounded to the south by latitude 48°45', to the north by latitude 50°, to the west by longitude 95°10' and to the east by longitude 94°.
