Survey Description


Helicopter-supported lake sediment and water collection was carried out between July 8 and August 20, 1982, in western Labrador.  Samples were collected at an average density of 1 sample per 13 km2.  Sample site duplicate samples were routinely collected in each analytical block of twenty samples.  The data are published in Geological Survey of Canada Open File 902.

The samples were reanalysed by INAA and published in GSC Open File 2689 along with the original data from OF 902.

This survey was carried out using National Geochemical Reconnaissance (NGR) protocols.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers almost all of NTS 23A, in Labrador, except for a small area in the east which lies inside Quebec and a small area to the east of the Rivière Romaine, which lies in Labrador.  Covers the northern portion of 22P which lies within Labrador.  Covers the northeastern portion of 22O which lies in Labrador.  Covers the eastern portion of 23B which lies in Labrador.

  • Covers a portion in the north of NTS 23B in Labrador.  It is bounded to the east, south and west by the Labrador-Quebec border.

  • Covers a small portion on the eastern edge of NTS 23A, in Labrador.  The southern, western and northern boundary is defined by the Rivière Romaine, which defines the Labrador-Quebec border.
