Survey Description

During the summers of 1990-1991, 264 B-horizon soil samples and 271 basal till samples were collected in the California Lake area, north central New Brunswick.  Samples were collected on a 2 x 2 km grid from hand dug pits (0.5 – 1 m in depth), trenches or from roadside exposures.  At each site, 1 kg of B-horizon soil, 5 kg of basal till and approximately 90 pebbles from till were collected.  In addition, more detailed work was conducted around the Half Mile Lake massive sulphide deposit.  Thirty seven samples of basal till were collected on a 500 m grid.

The data are published in New Brunswick Department of Natural Resources and Energy Geoscience Report 94-3.

Data Description:

Paper or digital report; Dbase file.

Quantities Analysed:

B horizon - <0.177 mm fraction by AAS for 8 elements. Till - <0.063 mm fraction by INAA for 34 elements; by AAS after HNO3-HCl and other digestions for 14 elements; by hydride AAS for As, Sb; by CV-AAS for Hg; by ion selective electrode for F.

Geochem Maps Available:

Proportional symbol maps show dispersal of 15 elements.

Other Analyses:

Pebble counts.

The data have also been published as part of a compilation for NTS 21O, 21N and 22B in NB DNRED Open File OF 2021-2.
