Survey Description


Between mid June and late July of 1976, lake sediment and water samples were collected from the northeast edge of the Athabasca Formation in northern Saskatchewan.

An Ekman dredge was used to collect a total of 426 sediment samples from an area of about 3000 km2, giving an average density of 1 sample per 7 km2.  Surface waters were also collected from all sites.

The majority of the sediment samples were oozes from lake centres, or basin centres in multi-basinal lakes.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers parts of NTS 64L (Wollaston Lake), 74I (Pasfield Lake) and 74P (Stony Rapids) in northern Saskatchewan.  The study area is bounded to the southeast by Wollaston Lake, to the south by latitude 58°N and to the southwest by Waterbury Lake.
