GEM Geochemical Surveys, 2010-2016

Project Description

The Geo-Mapping for Energy and Minerals Program was first launched by the Government of Canada in 2008 as a 5 year program administered by Natural Resources Canada to provide geoscience knowledge to identify the potential for energy and mineral resources in Canada's North.  The program was renewed in 2013 and Phase 2 of GEM (2013-2020) continues to advance geological knowledge in the North to support increased exploration of natural resources and to inform decisions on land use that balance conservation and responsible resource development.

Funds from this program were made available to collect and analyze glacial sediments, stream sediments, heavy minerals and water samples.  Geochemical surveys were carried out in the following areas:

Survey Year NTS and Area Sample Type GSC OF
2010, 2011 87G, H, 88A, B- Victoria Island, NT stream sediment and water, heavy mineral concentrates (from stream sediment)
