Survey Description

In 2016, till and stream sediment samples (including those for heavy mineral processing) were collected in the Ellice River area, western Nunavut.  The following samples were collected from three areas of mineral potential identified in surveys carried out in 2012 (OF 7471) and 2014 (OF 7887):

NTS Map Sheet Sample Type Number of Sites Comments
76H/1, 6, 8, 11; 76I/13; 76P/4 stream sediment 39
till 11 collected adjacent to stream sediment samples
stream sediment for heavy mineral processessing 17 collected at 17 of the 39 stream sediment sites

The data are published in Geological Survey of Canada Open File 8302.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers most of the northern part of NTS 76I/13 (untitled) and a small part of the southern portion of 76P/4 (untitled) in western Nunavut.  The centre of the study area is located approximately 100 km east of the community of Bathurst Inlet.  It is bounded to the west by 106°W longitude.

  • Covers small parts of NTS 76H/6 (no title; 1 sample) and 76H/11 (no title; 3 samples) in the Duggan Lake area of western Nunavut.  It is located approximately 9 km southwest of Duggan Lake.

  • Covers most of the eastern part of NTS 76H/8 (untitled) and a small part of the northeast corner of 76H/1 (no title; 2 samples) north of the Back River in western Nunavut.  It is bounded to the east by 104°W longitude.  The centre of the study area is located approximately 44 km southeast of the southern shore of Duggan Lake.
