Survey Description

During 2011 to 2013, samples were collected in the Abitibi area, Quebec, in the vicinity of the former Aldermac mine in order to identify environmental metal contamination.  The following samples were collected:

Sample Type Number of Samples
bulk surface lake sediments 33
lake sediment cores 32
stream sediments 11
surface water (lake+streams) 44
lake bottom water 25

The data are published in Geological Survey of Canda Open File 7595.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers parts of NTS 32D/3 (Rouyn) and 32D/6 (Rivière Kanasuta), Abitibi, Quebec.  The study area includes Lac Dasserat and is downstream from the former Aldermac Mine.  The centre of the study area is located approximately 23 km west-northwest of the town of Rouyn-Noranda.

  • Covers a very small part of NTS 32D/3 (Rouyn; 1 sample), Abitibi, Quebec.  The sampling area is located on Lac Labyrinthe approximately 1.5 km east of the Ontario-Quebec border.

  • Covers a very small part of NTS 32D/3 (Rouyn; 1 sample), Abitibi, Quebec.  The sampling area is located on Lac Opasatica approximately 1.8 km west of Highway 101.
