Keyword Definition

(a) Any body of running water that moves under gravity to progressively lower levels, in a relatively narrow but clearly defined channel on the surface of the ground, in a subterranean cavern, or beneath or in a glacier. It is a mixture of water and dissolved, suspended, or entrained matter. (b) A term popularly applied to a brook (as in Maine) or to a small river. (c) The water flowing in a stream. (d) A term used in quantitative geomorphology interchangeable with channel.
