Survey Description
During the summer of 1988, a helicopter supported lake sediment sampling survey was conducted by Sial Compagnie internationale de géophysiques inc., in the Havre-St-Pierre/Minganie area, Quebec. The area covers 50,500 km2. The sampling was done using a probe. A total of 5490 samples were collected and two grids were used: one sample per 2.5 km2 and one per 13 km2. Generally, sampling was done on lakes wider than 1 km.
The <177 micron fraction was analyzed for:
Element | Dissolution | Technique |
Ag, Al, As, Au, B, Ba, Be, Br, Ca, Cd, Ce, Co, Cr, Cs, Cu, Eu, Fe, Hg, K, La, Li, Mg, Mn, Mo, Na, Ni, P, Pb, Sb, Sc, Se, Sm, Sr, Th, Ti, Tm, U, V, W, Y, Zn | inductively coupled plasma emission (ICP-ES) or flameless atomic absorption (F-AAS) | |
Loss on ignition (LOI) | ||
pH | selective electrode |
The data are published in Open File MB 89-19, Department of Energy and Resources, 1989. Geochemical maps are published in Open File MB 89-46.
In 2007 a subset of samples from the westernmost part of the survey area was reanalysed by ICP-MS and the work is summarized in Ministère des Ressources naturelles et de la Faune PRO 2008-08.
In 2008, the majority of samples were reanalysed by ICP-MS and the work is summarized in Ministère des Ressources naturelles et de la Faune PRO 2009-02.
