Survey Description
From June to August 1992, field work for the meridian pilot project was completed along the 80th meridian from Lake Erie to James Bay in Ontario. The sample media collected included lake sediments (pre- and post-Ambrosia), stream sediments, soils and waters. Water samples were collected along the length of the meridian from Lake Erie to James Bay. Stream sediment, soil and water samples were collected in southern Ontario and lake sediments and waters in northern Ontario.
Samples were collected at 10 km intervals centered along the 80th meridian extending 940 km from Lake Erie to James Bay. Each of the 94 micromodules (10 x 10 km) was sampled uniformly by collecting a sample at random in each 5 x 5 km micromodule quarter.
The meridian corridor geochemical map was based on 1 set of 4 composite samples representing each micromodule.
The study is described in Ontario Geological Survey Open File Report OFR5907 and the data are published in Miscellaneous Release Data MRD014.
