The Meridian Project, Ontario, 1992-1993

Project Description

The Meridian Project is based on a new approach to low density geochemical mapping.  It was designed as a pilot project leading to the future preparation of a geochemical map of Ontario.

The objective of the Meridian Project is to examine the feasibility of geochemical mapping on a province-wide scale in Ontario.  Mapping was based on samples collected at 10 km intervals in 10 km wide corridors along the 80 th and 90 th meridians from the south to the north of the province.

Each 10 x 10 km micromodule was divided into quarters (5 x 5 km) and a sample was randomly taken in each quarter then combined to form a composite sample representing the micromodule.
