NGR lake sediment infill project, Lynn Lake, Manitoba
Lake sediment and water samples were collected by Rolf Schmitt over 3 field seasons (1985, 1987 and 1988). They were combined with regional lake sediment data collected in NTS map sheets 64B and 64C, and published as GSC Open File 1959. Some aspects of the project are described in Rolf Schmitt’s M.Sc. thesis (Ottawa University, supervisor: Eion Cameron).
The overall objectives of the project were:
a) to provide a detailed geochemical database for the mineral exploration industry to identify areas of high mineral potential;
b) to evaluate trace element response in lake sediments and lake waters in areas of similar geology, overlain by compositionally dissimilar surficial deposits (e.g. carbonate-rich vs. non-carbonate tills), and
c) to provide baseline environmental geochemical data.
