Survey Description

In August and September 2022, stream sediment and water samples were collected at 27 sites near the Casino deposit, west-central Yukon.  The following samples were collected:

Sample Type Number of Samples Analysis
stream sediment (silt to fine sand) 34 ~1-2 kg for geochemistry
stream water (2 samples at each site) 34

geochemistry (one sample is acidified on arrival at the lab)

anions, alkalinity and DOC on the unacidified sample

- bulk stream sediment (sieved in the field to < 2mm) 26 ~12 kg for heavy mineral processing
> 2 mm stream clasts   visual examination for bedrock source of detrital material

*DOC = dissolved organic carbon

In addition to the routine sampling outlined above, two field sampling protocols for surface water collection were tested to see if currently protocols can be improved.  At each site, 8 samples were collected from the active part of the stream.  One groundwater sample from a discharging borehole was also collected.

A description of the study can be found in Geological Survey of Canada Open File 8971.  The data will be published at a later date.
