Survey Description

In the fall of 2012, samples were collected in the Abitibi area, Quebec, downstream of the former Aldermac mine in order to identify environmental metal contamination.  Near-shore lake sediments were collected at 25 of ~2700 sites that were originally sampled during a winter drilling program in 1971-1972.   These 25 sites were chosen because they overlap geographically with recent investigations of the environmental consequences of metal mining.

The data are published in Geological Survey of Canada Open File 8393.
