Survey Description

In 1969, sampling of lakes and streams in the Beaverlodge (Eldorado) region north of Lake Athabasca was carried out.  The following samples were collected:

Site Number of Samples Sampling Density Sample Type GAS* File
Regional stream sites (n=550) 601 1 sample per square mile

One bag stream sediment

Two bottles of stream water (500 ml for trace elements; 250 ml for radon gas, pH and total alkalinity)

GAS014.DAT
Regional lake sites (n=740) 813 ~1.3 samples per square mile Two bottles of lake water GAS015.DAT
Seasonal lake and stream sites (n=4 lake, 4 stream) 287   Two bottles of lake water collected three times a week from June 25 – August 20, 1969. GAS018.DAT
Outcrop 96   Composite samples of fresh unweathered rock chips GAS019.DAT

* GAS=Geochemical Analysis System

A summary of the work can be found in Geological Survey of Canada Paper 74-32 and CIM Special Volume 11 (1971).

Note: GAS File 016 (detailed lake water samples) and GAS File 017 (nested stream and lake water samples) contain data for samples which are not included in the summary works listed above.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers part of NTS 74N/9 (Forget Lake) in the Beaverlodge/Eldorado uranium area, northern Saskatchewan.  Uranium City and Eldorado are located approximately 19 km and 12 km west respectively of the centre of the study area.  Max, Viking and Flack lakes are found within the study area which lies 14 km north of one of the northern shores of Lake Athabasca.
