Survey Description
Helicopter-supported sample collection was carried out during the summer of 1982 in the southern half of NTS 13L, excluding the southeast corner. Lake sediment and water samples were collected at an average density of 1 sample per 13 km2. Sample site duplicate samples were routinely collected in each analytical block of twenty samples. The data are published in Geological Survey of Canada Open File 998. This open file also contains data from the northern part of 13L previously published in GSC Open File 557.
In 1992, the samples were reanalysed by INAA and published in GSC Open File 2647 along with the original data from OF 998.
Data from this survey is part of a compilation published in GSC Open File 8348 (geochemical atlas).
This survey was carried out using National Geochemical Reconnaissance (NGR) protocols.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:
-
Covers the southwestern part of NTS 13L, in central Labrador, south of 54°30’N and west of 62°26’W.
-
Covers a portion in the southwest of NTS 13L, in central Labrador, around Mackenzie Lake and Kasheshibaw Lake (as identified on the base maps that accompany GSC Open Files 998 and 2647), where no NGR lake samples were collected during the 1982 field season. This area was flooded by the Smallwood Reservoir after the base maps were produced.
