Survey Description


During the summer of 1978, helicopter-supported lake sediment and water sampling was carried out in central Labrador in NTS 13M and the northern half of 13L.  The samples were collected at an average density of 1 sample per 13 km2.  Sample site and grid cell duplicate samples were routinely collected in each analytical block of twenty samples.  The data were published in GSC Open File 557 in 1979.  The samples collected from the northern part of NTS 13L were republished in GSC Open File 998 along with new samples collected 1982 and 1983 from the southern half of 13L.

The samples from the entire survey were reanalysed by INAA in 1992 and republished in GSC Open Files 2647 (13L) and 2649 (13M).

Data from this survey is part of a compilation published in GSC Open File 8348 (geochemical atlas).

This survey was carried out using National Geochemical Reconnaissance (NGR) protocols.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers NTS 13M and the southern half of 13L in Labrador.  It is bounded approximately to the west by the Quebec border.  It includes two sites that were sampled in Quebec and a few sites from lakes that straddle the border.
