Survey Description
During the summer of 1977, helicopter-supported lake sediment and water sampling was carried out on the Melville Peninsula, Nunavut. Samples were collected at an average density of 1 sample per 13 km2. Sample site and grid cell duplicate samples were routinely collected in each analytical block of twenty samples. The data were published in Geological Survey of Canada Open File 522 in 1978.
Data from this survey was included as part of a compilation map series and can be found in GSC Open File 738, published in 1981.
In 2009, the lake sediment samples were reanalysed by ICP-MS and INAA. These new data are published in GSC Open File 6269, which also includes data previously released in OF 522 and OF 521 (NTS 46N, 47B).
This survey was carried out using National Geochemical Reconnaissance (NGR) protocols.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:
-
Covers NTS sheets 46O and P and the southern half of 47A, in the central Melville Peninsula, Nunavut. It is bounded by the Foxe Basin to the east.
-
An area in the central Melville Peninsula which is devoid of large lakes, and is cut through by the Ajaqutalik River.
