Survey Description

Till samples were collected in northern Labrador and Quebec between 1982 and 1987.  The data are published in the following Geological Survey of Canada Open Files:

NTS Area in Labrador No. of Samples GSC Open File
13N Flowers River 600 1282
13J Rigolet 100 1318
13K Snegamook Lake 550 1319
13L Kasheshibaw Lake 314 1320
23I, J, O, P Dyke Lake (also QC)   1901

Open File 2170, published in 1990 is a compilation of data (new and previously published) from these areas as well as data not previously published.

The silt and clay-sized fraction of archived till samples were subjected to a second round of geochemical analysis by ICP-AES and INAA.  These new data are published in GSC Open File 3213.

Data Description:

Paper report and maps; data on diskette.

Quantities Analysed:

<0.002 mm fraction for Cu, Pb, Zn, Ni, Cr, Mo, Co, Cd, and Fe by AAS following hot aqua-regia (Lefort) digestion; for U by delayed neutron activation analysis; <0.002 mm fraction from detailed studies for Cu, Pb, Zn, Ni, Cr, Mo, Mn and Fe by ICP-AAS methods; As determined in selected samples by ICP-AAS methods.  <0.063 mm fraction of selected samples for Y, Nb, Zr, Th, Rb, Sr, Sn, Ce by XRF (740 samples); for Be by AAS (400 samples); for Au, Pt, Pd, by FA-ICP-

AFS methods (850 samples; Chemex); for Au by FA-AAS and INA (1000 samples; Bondar-Clegg).

Geochem Maps Available:

Proportional dot maps showing dispersal for selected elements (with topographic overlay).

Other Analyses:

HMC examined for particulate gold.
