Labrador-Quebec reanalysis project, 1994
Project Description
During the 1980’s, the Geological Survey of Canada modeled ice flow and glacial dispersal in Labrador to support mineral exploration in the region by drift prospecting. More than 2000 till samples were collected and published in GSC Open Files 1282, 1318, 1319, 1320, 1901. Data from these open files as well as new data and previously unpublished data were compiled in Open File 2170.
Since that time, there have been significant improvements in analytical methods that have increased the number of elements that can be easily determined by a single procedure and in some cases, have lowered the detection limits. To take advantage of those changes and to further define and expand on the geochemical properties of Labrador till, the silt and clay-sized fraction of archived till samples were subjected to a second round of geochemical analysis by ICP-AES and INAA. These new data are published in GSC Open File 3213.
