Survey Description


Till samples were taken on the Frontenac Arch and surrounding areas in southeastern Ontario in 1980-1981.  The data are published in GSC Open File 947.  This open file has been superseded by a digital release, GSC Open File 3175 which also includes data from OFs 1792 and 2274.  The data from OF 947 have also been released as part of a big Ontario-Quebec summary and interpretation in GSC Bulletin 463.

Quantities Analysed:

<0.002 mm fraction of till by AAS after HNO 3-HCl leach for 12 elements (including Hg); by colorimetric method for As; by fluorometric method for U.

Geochem Maps Available:

None.

Other Analyses:

Grain size (<2 mm fraction); carbonate (<0.063 mm by LECO).

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers parts of NTS 30N, M, 31B, G and all of NTS 31C, D, E and F in southeastern Ontario.  It is bounded to the northeast by the Ottawa River and to the south east by the St. Lawrence River.
