Frontenac Arch, southeastern Ontario and Muskoka area, Ontario till sampling surveys, 1980-1985
Project Description
A program of systematic overburden sampling was initiated on the Frontenac Arch and adjacent areas of southeastern Ontario in 1980. It was extended to the Muskoka, Ontario region in 1984. The project was designed to quantify regional variation in drift composition in order to provide baseline data for use in assessing the sensitivity of the terrain to the effects of acid rain. Much of the information obtained from the study can also be used as an aid to mineral exploration in the area. The data were published in GSC Open Files 947 (Frontenac Arch, southeastern Ontario) and 1792 (Muskoka). Both open files have been superseded by GSC Open File 3175 (data are digital) which also includes data from part of 2274. The data from OFs 947 and 1792 are also published as part of a big Ontario-Quebec summary and interpretation in GSC Bulletin 463.
