Clyde Forks - Westport, Ontario till sampling survey, 1986 and 1988

Project Description

In 1986 a program of surficial geologic mapping and systematic glacial sediment sampling was undertaken in eastern Ontario, in the Clyde Forks – Westport area.  The project was designed to quantify regional variation in drift composition in order to provide baseline data for use in assessing the sensitivity of the terrain to the effects of acid rain.  Much of the information obtained from the study can also be used as an aid to mineral exploration in the area.  The data are published in GSC Open File 2274.  The OF includes new data for samples previously published in GSC Open File 947.  Data from parts of Open File 2274 have been superseded by GSC Open File 3175, a digital release, which also includes data from OFs 1792 and 947.  Some of the data from OF 2274 are also published as part of a big Ontario-Quebec summary and interpretation in GSC Bulletin 463.
