Survey Description

More than 1800 till samples were collected in northwestern Manitoba between 1983 and 1988.  The data are published in GSC Open File 2118.  Data from NTS 64C are also published in GSC Open File 1204.  Data from NTS 64F are also published in GSC Open File 1205.

In 2005 as part of the GSC’s Targeted Geoscience Initiative 3 Program in the Flin Flon area, splits from the archived till samples were reanalyzed for a larger suite of elements by the Manitoba Geological Survey.  The data are published in MGS Open File Report OF2005-2.

These data are also part of four compilations, Geological Survey of Canada Open File 7064 and Manitoba Agriculture and Resource Development Open Files OF2020-2, OF2020-5 and OF2020-6.

Data Description:

Paper report; data files on diskette.

Quantities Analysed:

<0.002 mm fraction by AAS after HNO 3-HCl for 11 elements, by delayed neutron activation and fluorometry after HNO 3 for U, and by colourimetry after HNO 3-HClO 4 for As.  <0.063 mm fraction by INAA for 34 elements; by fire assay and neutron activation for Au; heavy mineral fraction by fire assay and AAS for Au.

Geochem Maps Available:

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers NTS 64B, C, F, G, 63N and parts of 63J, 63K and 63O and 64A in northwestern Manitoba.  It is bounded to the west by the Manitoba-Saskatchewan border.  Southern Indian Lake and part of Reindeer Lake are located within the study area.

  • Covers part of NTS 64A/11 (Campbell Lake) in northern Manitoba.  It is bounded to the west by 97.5°W longitude.  The northern part of Campbell Lake is found in the southeast part of the study area.

  • Covers a very small part of NTS 64A/2 (Assean Lake; 1 sample) in north-central Manitoba.  It is located in the southwest corner of the map sheet between the Odei and Burntwood rivers, approximately 2 km east of 97°W longitude.

  • Covers a very small part of NTS 63P/13 (Mystery Lake; 1 sample) in north-central Manitoba.  It is bounded to the west by 98°W longitude.  It is located along Highway 391, approximately 13 km northwest of the city of Thompson
