Survey Description

In 1988, stream sediment samples were collected at 1826 sites in the Papineau-Labelle area, Quebec at a density of 1 sample per 10 km2.  At each site, two samples were collected: a ~0.5 kg sample of fine sediment and a second sample that was collected by shovel and sieved in the field to < 850 µm to obtain ~4 L of sediment for the processing of heavy minerals.

Two regions were not sampled: Mont Tremblant Provincial Park and an area southeast of Mont-Laurier that was already sampled by SOQUEM.

The data are published in Ministère de l'Énergie et des Ressources du Québec MB 89-32.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers most of NTS 31J (Mont-Laurier) and parts of 31G (Ottawa), 31H (Montreal), 31I (Trois-Rivières) and 31O (Lac Kempt) in the Papineau-Labelle area, Quebec.  It is bounded to the south by the Ontario-Quebec border.  The centre of the study area is located approximately 155 km west of Trois-Rivières.

  • Covers part of NTS 31J (Mont-Laurier) and a small part of 31I (Trois-Rivières) du SNRC, the area of Mont Tremblant Provincial Park.  It represents an area that was not sampled during the 1988 alluvial heavy minerals survey of the Papineau-Labelle area.
