Survey Description


In 2010, detailed surveys of regional lake bottom sediments were carried out in 5 areas in Côte-Nord territory, Quebec.

In total, 1,238 samples were collected over an area of about 5,985 km2 for a sampling density of approximately 1 sample per 2 km2.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers part of the south half of NTS 22C/5 (Lac de Pons) in Côte-Nord territory, Quebec.  The centre of the study area is located approximately 10 km north-north east of the town of Sacré-Coeur.  Lac Paradis and Lac des Sables are found in the southeast part of the study area.

  • Covers most of the west half of NTS 22F/12 (Lac au Brochet) and a small part of the south part of 22F/13 (Lac Dissimieux) in Côte-Nord territory, Quebec.  The centre of the study area is located approximately 130 km northwest of the shore of the Saint Lawrence River.  It is bounded to the west by Lac Betchie and is located just north of Pipmuacan Reservoir.

  • Covers most of the west half of NTS 22N (Réservoir Manicouagan) and a small part of 22K (Lac Berte) in Côte-Nord territory, Quebec.  It is bounded to the east by Lac Manicouagan.

  • Covers part of NTS 12O/7 (Lac Noyrot) in Côte-Nord territory, Quebec.  The centre of the study area is located approximately 36 km northwest of the shore of the Saint Lawrence River.  Rivière Saint-Augustin Nord-Ouest crosses the study area.

  • Covers part of NTS 12O/11 (Rivière à Saumon) in Côte-Nord territory, Quebec.  The centre of the study area is located approximately 83 km northwest of the shore of the Saint Lawrence River and 40 km south of the Quebec-Labrador border.
