Côte-Nord Territory Lake Sediment Geochemistry Project, 2010

Project Description

The Corporation de Promotion du Développement Minéral de la Côte-Nord (CPDM) in collaboration with the Ministère des Ressources naturelles et de la Faune (MRNF) carried out a sampling program to gain expertise and to develop the mineral industry in the area.  Lake bottom sediments were collected for geochemistry in the following areas :

1. A regional survey in the  Minganie area near Havre-St-Pierre;

2. 5 detailed surveys in the Côte-Nord territory (NTS 22C/05; 22F/12, 13; 22N, 22K; 12O/7; 12O/ 11).

A description of the work and geochemical maps of some of the data can be found in Ministère des Ressources naturelles et de la Faune du Québec MB 2011-05.

Project Funding

Funding was provided through a specific agreement on the development of regional expertise in the acquisition of geochemical knowledge of the secondary mining environment as well as on the promotion and development of the mineral industry in Côte-Nord territory.

The 3 year agreement, launched in April 2008, brought together the Mineral Development Promotion Corporation of the North Shore, the Quebec Department of Natural Resources and Wildlife and 6 other partners: the Ministry of Employment and Social Solidarity, the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Regions, the Regional Conference of Elected of the North Shore, Hydro-Québec and the regional Committee ACCORD.
