Survey Description


In the summer of 1970, a stream sediment sampling survey was conducted in the Magpie, St-Jean and Romaine rivers region, Quebec.  The area covers 35,000 km2.  A total of 578 samples were collected at an average density of 1 sample per 60.5 km2 and analysed for:

The data are published in geological report RG-163, Department of Natural Resources, 1975.  This report is the third of a series of 3 publications following a geological reconnaissance program in the Grenville Province, known as the "Grenville Project".

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers all of NTS 22I (Lac Manitou), most of 22P (Lac Fournier) and parts of 12L (Havre-Saint-Pierre), /M (Lac de Morhiban). It is bounded by 50°15'N and 52°N latitude and 63°W and 66°W longitude. The north shore of the St. Lawrence River marks the southern limit of the area. The small part of the area belonging to Labrador and Newfoundland was not mapped.
