Survey Description

In late July and early August 1993, field work for the second phase of the Meridian Project was completed along the 90°45’ meridian from the Canada-United States border north to Big Trout Lake in Ontario.  Lake sediments (the upper 8 cm and the sediment below 14 cm) and lake waters were collected.

Samples were collected at 10 km intervals centred along the meridian.  Each of the 10 km x 10 km micromodules were sampled uniformly by collecting a sample in each 5 x 5 km micromodule quarter.  These 4 samples were then combined to make a composite for analysis.

The study is summarized in Ontario Geological Survey Miscellaneous Paper MP160 (Summary of Field Work and Other Activities 1993).
