Survey Description


In the summers of 2011, 2012 and 2013, lake sediment and water samples were collected in the McFaulds Lake “Ring of Fire” area, northern Ontario.

Lake sediments (deep and shallow) and/or lake water samples were collected at 1323 sites over an area of 9400 km2 for an average density of i sample site per 7.1 km2.

The data are published in Ontario Geological Survey (OGS) Miscellaneous Release Data, MRD373.

The data are also part of a compilation database, Lake Geochemistry of Ontario – 2019.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers parts of NTS 43C (Missisa Lake), 43D (Lansdowne House) and 43E (Winiskisis Channel) in the McFaulds Lake (“Ring of Fire”) area, northern Ontario.  The Attawapiskat River flows through the eastern part of the study area.  The centre part of the study area is located approximately 289 km west of Hudson Bay.
