Survey Description


In the summers of 2014 and 2015, lake sediment and water samples were collected in the area between Nakina and Marshall Lake northwestern Ontario.

Lake sediments (deep and shallow) and/or lake water samples were collected at 1638 sites over an area of 4000 km2 for an average density of i sample site per 2.5 km2.

The data are published in Ontario Geological Survey (OGS) Miscellaneous Release Data, MRD364.

The data are also part of a compilation database, Lake Geochemistry of Ontario – 2019.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers NTS 42L/2 (Nakina), 42L/3 (Kowkash), 42L/5 (Toronto Lake) and 42L/6 (Hanover Lake) in the Nakina-Marshall Lake area, northwestern Ontario.  The centre of the study area is located approximately 71 km northeast of Lake Nipigon and 63 km north of the Trans Canada Highway.
