Survey Description


In July and August 2010, a high-density lake sediment and water survey was carried out in the Separation Lake area, northwestern Ontario, over an area of 5700 km2, at an average density of 1 sample site per 3.3 km2.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers NTS 52L/1 (Lount Lake), 52L/2 (Whitedog Lake), 52L/3 (Umfreville Lake), 52L/8 (Lennan Lake) and parts of 52L/3 (Crowduck Lake) and 52L/6 (Ryerson Lake) in the Separation Lake area, northwestern Ontario.  It is bounded to the west by the Ontario-Manitoba border and to the north by 50.5°N latitude.  Big Sand Lake is found in the south central part of the study area.  The centre of the study area is located approximately 58 km north of Kenora.
