Survey Description


In July and August 2009, a high-density lake sediment and water survey was carried out in the Mine Centre area, northwestern Ontario, over an area of 5700 km2, at an average density of 1 sample site per 3.4 km2.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers all of NTS 52F/1 (Pekagoning Lake) and 52F/2 (Entwine Lake), the north half of 52B/12 (Quetico Lake) and most of the Canadian portion of 52C (International Falls) in the Mine Centre area, northwestern Ontario.  It is bounded to the southwest by the Ontario-Minnesota border.  The study area is centred on the rural community of Mine Centre and is located between Atikokan to the east and Fort Frances to the west.
