Survey Description


In June and July 2004, a high-density lake sediment and water survey was carried out in the Upper Manitou Lake area, northwestern Ontario.

Lake sediment and/or water samples were collected at 1087 sites, for an average density of 1 sample per 1.9 km 2.

The data are published in Ontario Geological Survey Open File Report OFR6194 and Miscellaneous Release-Data, MRD206.

The data are also part of a compilation database, Lake Geochemistry of Ontario – 2019.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers NTS 52F/6 (Upper Manitou Lake) and 52F/7 (Stormy Lake) in the Upper Manitou Lake area, northwestern Ontario.  The centre of the study area is located approximately 60 km west of Ignace and 51 km southeast of Dryden.  Highways 502 and 622 run north-south through the western and eastern portions of the study area respectively.
