Survey Description


In July 2003, a high-density lake sediment and water survey was carried out in the central Swayze area (Chapleau map area), northeastern Ontario.

A total of 1398 lake sites were sampled over a 4390 km2 area representing a sampling density of 1 sample per 3 km2.

The data are published in Ontario Geological Survey Open File Report OFR6173 and Miscellaneous Release-Data, MRD188.

The data are also part of a compilation database, Lake Geochemistry of Ontario – 2019.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers NTS 41O/8 (Biscotasing), /9 (Opeepeesway Lake), /10 (Sultan). /15 (Rollo Lake), /16 (Rush Lake) in the central Swayze area, northeastern Ontario.  The centre of the study area is located approximately 115 km southwest from Timmins.  The eastern edge of the survey is located approximately 10 km west from Highway 144.
