Survey Description


In July and August 2001, a lake sediment and water quality survey was carried out in the Temagami area, northeastern Ontario as part of Operation Treasure Hunt.

A total of 2763 sites were visited for a density of 1 site per 3.2 km2.  Lake sediments were collected at 2441 sites.

The data are published in Ontario Geological Survey Open File Report OFR6144 and Miscellaneous Release-Data, MRD137.

The data are also part of a compilation database, Lake Geochemistry of Ontario – 2019.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers NTS 31L/11 (Temiscaming), 31L/12 (Marten Lake), 31L/13 (Ingall Lake), 31L/14 (ottertail Creed), 31M/3 (Fabre), 31M/4 (Temagami), 41I/9 (Glen Afton), 41I/16 (Lake Temagami) and 41P/01 (Obabika Lake) in the Temagami area, northeastern Ontario.  The centre of the study area is located approximately 98 km northeast from Sudbury and 70 km  north-northwest from the city of North Bay.  It is bounded to the east by the Ontario-Quebec border.
