Survey Description


In the summer of 2000, a high-density lake sediment and water quality survey was carried out in the Perrault Falls area, northwestern Ontario as part of Operation Treasure Hunt.

A total of 1262 lake sites were visited for an average density of 1 sample per 5 km 2.  Lake sediment samples were collected at 1124 sites.

The data are published in Ontario Geological Survey Open File Report OFR6092 and Miscellaneous Release-Data, MRD106.

The data are also part of a compilation database, Lake Geochemistry of Ontario – 2019.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers most of NTS 52K (Lac Seul) in the Perrault Falls area, northwestern Ontario.  The centre of the study area is located approximately 70 km north of Dryden.  It is bounded to the north and south by latitudes 51°N and 50°N respectively.  The rural community of Perrault Falls and Lac Seul are located in the southern part of the study area.
