Survey Description


In the summer of 2000, a lake sediment and water quality survey was carried out in the Sioux Lookout-Lac Seul area, northwestern Ontario, as part of Operation Treasure Hunt.

A total of 2192 lake sites were visited and 1949 lake sediment samples were collected.

The data are published in Ontario Geological Survey Open File Report OFR6069 and Miscellaneous Release-Data, MRD088.

The data are also part of a compilation database, Lake Geochemistry of Ontario – 2019.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers NTS 52O/4 (Wesleyan Lake) and parts of NTS 52J (Sious Lookout) and 52K (Lac Seul) in the Sioux Lookout-Bamaji Lake area, northwestern Ontario.  It is bounded to the south by 50°N latitude.  The centre of the study area is located approximately 114 km northeast of Dryden.  The communities of Sioux Lookout and Lac Seul are found within the study area.
