Survey Description


In September and October 1999, lake sediment samples were collected at 2176 sites in the Armstrong-Lake Nipigon area, northwestern Ontario, as part of Operation Treasure Hunt, Area C.

The data are published in Ontario Geological Survey Open File Report OFR6027 and Miscellaneous Release-Data, MRD056.

The data are also part of a compilation database, Lake Geochemistry of Ontario – 2019.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers all of NTS 52H/11 (Kabitotikwia Lake), 52H/14 (Gull Bay) and most of 52I (Armstrong) in the Armstrong-Lake Nipigon area, northwestern Ontario.  The study area is located both north and west of Lake Nipigon.  It is bounded to the south by 49.5°N latitude.  The centre of the study area is located approximately 200 km north-northeast of Thunder Bay.
