Survey Description


In July and August 1998, a high-density lake sediment and water survey was carried out in the Garden Lake-Obonga Lake area, northwestern Ontario.

The data are published in Ontario Geological Survey (OGS) Miscellaneous Release Data, MRD051.

As part of Operation Treasure Hunt, the samples were reanalyzed for Au and PGEs.  The data are published in Ontario Geological Survey OFR6028 and MRD057.

The data are also part of a compilation database, Lake Geochemistry of Ontario – 2019.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers all of NTS 52G/9 (Empire Lake), 52H/12 (Holinshead Lake), 52H/13 (Uneven Lake) and parts of 52G/8 (Pakashkan Lake), 52H/5 (Armistice Lake), 52H/6 (Cheeseman Lake), 52H/11 (Kabitotikwia Lake) and 52H/14 (Gull Bay) in northwestern Ontario.  It is located approximately 20 km west of Lake Nipigon.  The western part of the study area is bounded to the south by 49.5°N latitude.
