Survey Description

In 1976, stream sediments were collected in the Plaster Rock, Riley Brook, Sisson Branch Reservoir and Nepisiguit Lakes map sheets.  Some spring sediments were also collected.  The -80 mesh fraction of the samples was analysed by atomic absorption by the Mineral Resources Branch of New Brunswick DNR using a hot nitric acid digestion.  Uranium was analysed by Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. using delayed neutron activation.

In 1986, samples weighing >15 g were analysed for As, Sb, Ba, Au by Chemex Labs Ltd. using AAS.

The data are presented on a series of New Brunswick Department of Natural Resources map plates:

NTS Map Sheet NB DNR Map Plate Data
21J/14 (E ½) MP 79-45 a to g Cu, Pb, Zn, Mn, Mo, U, As+Sb+Ba+Au
21O/3 (E ½) MP 79-50 a to g Cu, Pb, Zn, Mn, Mo, U, As+Sb+Ba+Au
21O/7 (W ½) MP 75-70 to 75-73 Cu, Pb, Zn, Mn
21O/7 MP 87-49 As+Sb+Ba+Au

Note: there are samples on the northern part of map plates 75-70 to 75-73 that are not in the database; their collection year is unknown.

Geographic Extent

Minimum Latitude Maximum Latitude Minimum Longitude Maximum Longitude

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers parts of NTS 21J/14 (Plaster Rock), 21O/3 (Riley Brook), 21O/6 (Sisson Branch Reservoir) and 21O/7 (Nepisiguit Lakes) in northern New Brunswick.  It extends just east into NTS 21O/2 (Serpentine Lake; 1 sample).  The Mount Carleton Wildlife Management Area, including Nictau Lake and Bathurst Lake, is in the northeast part of the study area.  Sisson Branch Reservoir lies just outside the northwest edge of the study area.
