Survey Description
In June to August 1989, a total of 922 sites were sampled for stream sediment, moss-mat sediment and stream water at an average density of 1 site per 10.8 km2. Provincial parks were not sampled. Samples were collected by truck, boat or helicopter depending on accessibility. Moss-mat sediments were collected on Vancouver Island; stream sediments were collected on the Lower Mainland. The data are published in British Columbia RGS 26/Geological Survey of Canada Open File 2184.
This survey was carried out using National Geochemical Reconnaissance (NGR) protocols.
Sampling Procedure
Moss-mat sediment samples weighing 1-2 kg were scraped from logs and boulders found within the active stream channel and placed in kraft-paper bags. Unfiltered water samples were collected in 250 ml Nalgene bottles and precautions were taken to exclude suspended solids when possible.
