Survey Description

1042 till samples were collected in 2002 on the western Avalon Peninsula and Isthmus, eastern Newfoundland.  Sampling density was controlled by access as well as surficial geology and averaged about 1 sample per 1 km2 in areas with good access to 1 sample per 4 km2 in areas where helicopter support was required.  The data are published in Newfoundland Department of Mines and Energy Open File NFLD 2824.

Data Description:

Paper and digital report and data files (available on-line).

Quantities Analysed:

<0.063 mm fraction by AAS after nitric acid digestion for Ag and Rb, by ICP-ES after HF-HCl-HClO4 digestion for 29 elements, by INAA for 36 elements.

Geochem Maps Available:

Proportional symbol plots show the distribution of 12 elements and % LOI.

Other Analyses:

LOI.

Samples from this survey were reanalyzed for fluoride and the data are published in a compilation (Open File NFLD/3344) with samples collected from across the province between 1985 and 2017.
