Survey Description
In 1974 and 1975, geochemical stream sediment surveys were carried out in theAntigonish Highlands region of Nova Scotia. Samples were collected at a density of ~3.1 samples per km2 over the 2200 km2 survey area. Each sample consisted of one to two pounds of stream sediment collected by hand. All accessible streams were sampled at 330 m intervals.
Year | Highland Area | Number of Samples |
1974 | Antigonish | 3470 |
1974 | Cape George | 1110 |
1975 | New Glasgow | 2420 |
Total: | 7000 |
The samples were oven-dried, sieved to -60 mesh and digested using hot acid partial extraction techniques before analysis by AAS.
A summary of the work and related publications can be found in Nova Scotial Department of Mines and Energy Open File Report 90-017.
This survey was carried out using National Geochemical Reconnaissance (NGR) protocols.
