GSC atomic absorption spectroscopy:4 elements: Zn, Ag, Mn, Li

General Methodology:

Zn, Ag, Mn and Li in sediments

400 mg of minus 250 mesh sediment are weighed out.  To this are added 6 ml of 4N HNO3 and 2 drops of concentrated HCl.  The sample is shaken and placed in a water bath at 90°C for 1.5 hours.  The sample is then diluted to 20 ml with metal-free water, with intermittent agitation and allowed to settle.  The leach is analysed on a Perkin Elmer 303 atomic absorption spectrophotometer.  A deuterium background correction is used in the Ag analysis.  Ag is read at 328.1 nm, Zn at 213.9 nm, Li at 670.8 nm and Mn at 403.1 nm.
