GEM 2 Southern Mackenzie Surficial Project, 2017-2019

Project Description

During the summers of 2017, 2018 and 2019, till, stream sediments and stream waters were collected in the Hay River – Kakisa Lake and Fort Providence areas, west of Pine Point, Northwest Territories for provenance studies and mineral potential evaluation.  Indicator mineral patterns were studied to better understand any possible link between previously reported sphalerite and galena grains, dispersal from the Pine Point and other unknown mineralization.

The following open files were published:

Sample Type GSC Open File Description

Project Funding

The Geo-Mapping for Energy and Minerals Program was first launched by the Government of Canada in 2008 as a 5 year program administered by Natural Resources Canada to provide geoscience knowledge in order to identify the potential for energy and mineral resources in Canada's North.  The program was renewed in 2013, and Phase 2 of GEM (GEM 2, 2013-2020) continues to advance geological knowledge in the North to support increased exploration of natural resources and to inform decisions on land use that balance conservation and responsible resource development.
