Survey Description


During the summer of 2017, till samples were collected in southern Northwest Territories in an area from Fort Liard to Pine Point.  In 2018, sampling focused on NTS 85F and G with some samples collected in 85C to fill in sampling gaps from 2017.  In 2019, four samples were collected along the Buffalo River.  Samples were collected at a 10-15 km spacing for indicator minerals and geochemistry.

Chemical studies of kimberlite indicator minerals from till are published in GSC Open File 8799.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers parts of NTS 85A-G and 95B, G, H in the southwest Northwest Territories.  It is bounded to the south by latitude 60°N, to the northeast by Great Slave Lake and to the southeast by Wood Buffalo National Park.  Highways 1 and 7 run through the study area which extends from Fort Liard in the west to Pine Point in the east.
