Northwestern Ontario till sampling survey, 1991-1992
Project Description
The project was designed to investigate the stratigraphy, sedimentology, composition and source of glacial sediments, especially till, in areas of potential bedrock mineralization. The Red Lake-Woman Lake-Confederation Lake area was chosen because producing gold mines and former base metal mines are located in the area and there is potential for further mining development. Glacial sediment covers large parts of the area and conceals promising targets. Drift prospecting in this area will aid exploration. The data are published in GSC Open Files 2583 and 3038. The till data have also been released as part of a geoscience compilation for the area in GSC Open File 3751.
